The word Nepenthe itself means "Isle of No Sorrow". During the lengthy road closure of 2017, with Nepenthe cut off both north and south, we have experienced life here as though on an island. Family artist and award winning painter Erin Lee Gafill lives in the old log house above Nepenthe and painted this luminous oil painting at dawn one quiet morning a couple months into the closure. She is making the image available as a special print for the Phoenix Shop to sell as an artful keepsake of life here during this extraordinary time. This special archival edition gives friends at home and faraway a tangible way to support Nepenthe's commitment to serving the Big Sur community during the road closure, and a way to celebrate the awesome natural beauty of this amazing place we call home.
This limited edition fine art print is produced in
Erin's studio to the artist's specifications. They are printed on
Watercolor paper using a process that will last a life time. The print
size is the outside paper dimension, the image size is approximately 8"
x 10" or 14" x 12" for the two print sizes.
